Armada Is Revolutionizing Electronic Music

The electronic dance music industry is a multi-billion dollar industry. Electronic music may be the new kid on the block, with respect to other genres of music, but it certainly has the potential to become the standard bearer for modern day music. To say that electronic music is immensely popular would be an understatement.

Armada Music

Armada Music (simply known as Armada) is a Dutch record label that is dedicated to releasing state of the art electronic dance music. It is an independent record company that was founded 11 years ago on June 23, 2003. Armin Van Bureen, Maykel Piron and David Lewis are the founding fathers of this hugely successful recording label. The name “Armada” was made by using the first two letters in the first names of the founders of the label.
Founders – Armin Van Buuren, Maykel Piron and David Lewis are each celebrities in their own rights. Before we get to know more about Armada, it is essential to introduce ourselves to the founding members of this world renowned record label.

Armin Van Buuren

Armin Van Buuren is one of the most recognizable figures in the world of trance music. He is a Dutch trance music producer and a DJ. His work revolves around progressive trance and uplifting trance.
Armin Van Bureen

Van Buuren has had a career studded with accolades. For instance, he has attained the No. 1 spot on DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs fan poll on a record breaking 5 different occasions. He was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording for his single “This is What it Feels Like”, making him one of only four trance artists to have received a Grammy nomination. He has appeared in the Billboard Dance/Electronic Albums chart for a record 21 times. A State of Trance is a weekly radio show that was initiated by Armin Van Bureen in the year 2001. He has been hosting the show ever since and has garnered 20 million weekly listeners from 26 countries worldwide. Courtesy of the radio show, Armin Van Bureen has reached a status of super stardom.

Maykel Piron

Maykel Piron has been working in the music industry for more than 15 years. He is currently overseeing affairs at Armada Music as the CEO and the Managing Director. Under his management, Armada has reached new heights of success.

He began his career at a DJ promotion service. He later joined Purple Eye Productions. There he released records from famous artists such as Ferry Corsten, Marco V and his founding partner of Armada, Armin Van Buuren.  

Maykel is also the co-founder and a board director of Cloud 9 Music which was established in 2004. He was awarded with the “Feather”, which is a special prize for people within the Dutch music industry who have made great contributions to the advancement and evolution of Dutch music. It’s worth noting that Maykel Piron became the youngest ever person to receive this highly exalted award.

David Lewis

He is also the founder of David Lewis Productions, which is based in Amsterdam, New York and Hong Kong. His company specializes in Artist management and bookings.
Celebrity music artists such as Armin Van Buuren, Blake Jarrell, Don Diablo, Dub Vision, Firebeatz, Jaz Von D, Jochen Miller, Julian Jordan, MaRLo and many others have performed under the umbrella of David Lewis Productions.

Armada Goals

Armada aims to bring together everything that is related to music in one company. This approach has attracted some of the biggest names in the electronic music industry to the label. Aly & Fila, Andy Moor, BT, Chicane, Dash Berlin, Paul Oakenfold, W&W, Cosmic Gate and Max Graham are some of the well known names who have signed with Armada. Besides the aforementioned established stars, Armada has recruited some of the best new and upcoming talents in electronic music.

Armada can be seen as a parent label under which you have some of the industry’s largest imprints such as W&W’s Mainstage Music, Trice Recordings, Orjan Nilsen’s In My Opinion Records, Dash Berlin’s Aropa, M Records, and Armin van Buuren’s Armind, A State of Trance, and Who’s Afraid of 138?! labels.  All in all, Armada are in charge of 25 different sub labels.

Armada Accolades

With a line up consisting of some of the most brilliant musicians in the world, and under the meticulous management of Maykel Piron, Armada have cemented their spot in the echelons of the music industry. The record label had the immaculate honour of receiving 5 consecutive International Dance Music Awards for “Best Global Dance Label”. Their winning run spanned 2009-2013.

In addition to this accolade, Armada received 22 nominations at the 2014 IDMAS, out of which they won 10, including the award for the “Best Compilation” for Armin Van Buuren’s “A State of Trance”.  Armada have also teamed up with Google, Point Blank and DJ Mag to form the Academy of Electronic Music, which was given the People’s Choice Award at the 2014 Webby Awards.

Armada Special Events

Armada are known to host spectacular musical events around the world. These are known as Armada Nights. This is where Armada DJs exhibit their extraordinary skills in electronic music.  Their shows have taken place in various cities around the world including Buenos Aires, London, Amsterdam, Rome, Jakarta, New York, Dubai, Mexico City.

Stages featuring the Armada label have been seen at Ultra Music Festival events in Argentina and Chile. They have also been sighted at the Electronic Family events in Amsterdam. It goes without saying that Armada are one of the prime driving forces behind the Electronic and Dance Music revolution that is taking in the major cities around the world.
