Swedish EDM DJ and producer Avicii has continued with the trend of remixing his own songs. He recently released a remix to his single “The Nights”. The original version, which was featured on FIFA ’15, was released on the 1st of December, 2014 as a digital download and was a moderate hit which managed to chart in several countries across Europe, and hit the number 2 spot in his home country. An accompanying music video was released on YouTube on the 15th of December, 2014 through Avicii’s VEVO account. The remix came shortly before 2014 closed, meaning it was released just in time for New Year’s Eve parties and celebrations. The remix showcases what seems to be evolving into a distinct Avicii sound, which is great as it’s always nice to hear artists who have a distinct and unmistakable sound.
The original version of “The Nights” is a dance track which has elements of country and bares great similarity to another Avicii track titled “Wake Me Up”. The remix follows a different pattern all together. It’s a hard-hitting, electro-infused track which is more in line with the type of music we’ve grown accustomed to expect from the young artist. This trend of remixing his own songs seems to have begun around the time when Avicii released Avicii by Avicii which was a complete remix of his 2013 studio album True. The original track was released as part of an EP released by Avicii titled The Days/Night EP which also features a remix of “The Nights” by Felix Jaehn.
It’s awesome to hear new music from Avicii who took a hiatus during part of 2014 due to exhaustion and various health-related issues but now seems to be getting back into the swing of things. He broadcast his One World Party playlist on Spotify on New Year’s Eve for people to stream from anywhere in the world. He is also scheduled to get back onto the festival circuit in February of this year. He will be one of the performers at the Future Music Festival in Australia as he performs alongside Afrojack, Martin Garrix, Drake, and The Prodigy among others.
Leading up to the festival there will probably be a lot of attention targeted towards Avicii since he wasn’t able to perform during last year’s edition due to a stomach-related illness. Since he’s been out of action for a while I think it’s a safe assumption to make that he will probably release some more new material in the near future in anticipation of his album Stories which is scheduled for release some time in the course of the year. Earlier in 2014 Avicii’s revealed that he has collaborated with artists such as Matisyahu, Jon Bon Jovi, Chris Marti, and Wyclef Jean on various songs for the “Stories” album. Chances are he might even debut new music during the festival; at least we can only hope.
