Swedish EDM veteran Eric Prydz recently released a remix of Tether which was originally produced by CHVRCHES. The track premiered on BBC Radio One a few days ago and was named ‘The Hottest Record In The World’ by Zane Lowe. The track is awesome to say the least and deserves the accolade it was given by Zane.
Upon premiering the track, Zane interviewed Eric over the phone to inquire how the swede decided to remix the track and also to discuss Eric’s upcoming album. Prydz said he heard the song a while back and was captivated by the stringer sound. This led to him wanting to include the stringer sound in his set and he eventually started working on the remix. He said he started working on the remix during the 2014 Future Music Festival in Australia, which he was a part of. He perfected the mix over time and then contacted CHVRCHES to get their opinion on it and they “really liked it” so they decided to release it as “Eric Prydz vs CHVRCHES“.
Iain Cook, a member of CHVRCHES, when talking about his reaction when he heard Eric’s initial mix of Tether at last year’s Ultra Music festival said “I was really surprised by that, I had no idea he had done anything with the track.” He went on to say “I saw the video of his performance at Ultra in Miami and it kinda blew my mind a bit.” This shouldn’t come as a surprise though because it seems that almost anything that the Swedish veteran touches turns to gold. The song was originally featured on the group’s 2013 album The Bones Of What You Believe.
On the topic of his new album Eric said that he’s in the studio 24/7 and he’s in the final stages of the project. He’s “just polishing the mixes” and he expects that it should be done in two weeks. A full length studio project from Eric Prydz has been a long time coming so we just have to wait and see what he has been cooking up in his lab.
Eric was featured on this year’s first essential mix alongside his protege Jeremy Olander. He’s also one of the major acts scheduled to perform at this year’s edition of the Ultra Music Festival. He will probably be on the festival circuit for a while as most EDM DJs of his status are; and probably more so due to the impending release of the new album.
That’s not all though. He announced a North American tour which will kick off on the 12th of February 2015. The tour will not hit big stages though; it will hit mostly clubs which should provide for a more intimate set. Clubs also normally allow you to play longer sets and with the massive catalog of tracks that Prydz has under all his aliases he won’t run out of material to perform. All 16 dates are in the USA save for 1 date in Ontario and another in Montreal, Canada. You can purchase tickets from StubHub.
