XS Nightclub’s resident DJ, Zedd was recently a guest on on 97.1 AMP where he dished out details on his upcoming sophomore studio album which is scheduled for release later this year. With the release of his single ‘I Want You To Know’ which features his girlfriend Selena Gomez there’s a lot of hype surrounding the young producer. During the interview he revealed that work on the upcoming album is at an advanced stage.

“I’m really far advanced in my album right now. It’s probably still going to take me a good month, a month and a half to finish it — you know the last touches,” said the artist.  He also pointed out one very interesting thing about the new album which is that he wants to craft a record which he can perform on his keyboard without any difficulty. That’s actually a difficult thing to do especially considering how much EDM depends on automation, arppegiation and other techniques of sound manipulation which are not easy to play live, and in some cases humanly impossible. So he has his work cut out for him.

‘I Want You To Know’ was written by OneRepublic’s lead singer, Ryan Tedder, Zedd, and KDrew. Zedd explained how the song came about in a different interview.

I had the day off… and I decided to go buy stuff for my house because I just moved, so I have an empty
house, and I had to pee. I had my engineer with me, so I was like, ‘I hope they have a bathroom.’ He was like, ‘Just go to the studio over there,’ which was across the street from my studio. He’s like, ‘They have a
bathroom, just go and use that. So I walk in, and John, the head of our label, who had just signed Selena, was there. He was like, ‘Have you ever met Selena?’ That was literally the next thing he said. So he introduced me to her, and was like, ‘Hey, she’s cool, maybe we should make a song together.’ And then like a week later, we start working on a song. All because I had to pee.

The video for ‘I Want You To Know’ was released yesterday via Zedd’s VEVO YouTube account. Unsurprisingly the video is set in a club scene as is the the norm with EDM videos. Zedd only appears for a brief moment though, with Selena taking up the bulk of the screen time which most guys can’t complain about. You can watch it at the bottom of the page.

Despite the release of the song and video, and the impending release of the album, the official tracklist, album art, and album title haven’t been shared yet so it’s unknown how many tracks will be on the project as well as the featured artists. This will be Zedd’s second official studio release since 2012’s ‘Clarity’ which managed to chart in several different countries, most notably the USA where is reached the number two position on the Billboard US Dance/Electronic Albums chart.

In between the two albums Zedd has been producing music for a number of artists including Lady Gaga. He has also released a number of singles over the years with the most notable one being his collaboration with Ariana Grande which is titled ‘Break Free’. The single, which was released in 2014, managed to chart on the Billboard on the Billboard Hot 100 as well as the Billboard Dance/Electronic songs chart. It was also nominated for a Teen Choice Award in the ‘Best Break-Up Song’ category, but it lost to One Direction’s hit single Story Of My Life’.
